Some Personal Recount Excerts

Some excerts from the writitng the students did about their trip to the waterhole.

I stepped into the creek, every step I take, the freezing water rises.
By Chelsea Hailes

The soothing trickle of water echoed across the waterhole. Calvin edged out towards the edge of the rocky embankment, then leapt out splashing down below.  He surfaced just as the cascade of water dropped upon him.

It was ice cold, it froze my cheeks and numbed my legs.
All of the girls had to form a huddle in a group to keep warm.  The heat from peoples breathe was keeping us warm. We were told not to panic.

The cold water numbed my body from top to toe. I was an popsiclestick covered with ice.

Nelson located and picked up a large cave weta in a crease in the rocks.  It was about 10-15 centimetres long and looked edible, as Bear Grulls would say.
By Kayden

I could not figure out why all the boys were screaming like girls.
The cold water was bound to numb me but still I edged closer to the creek.  As soon as the bottom of my foot touched the water, a cold shock traveled through my body.  It felt like a shard of glass entering my foot.

I needed to wipe out all the disadvantages and think of the advantages of this experience, such as keeping afloat with my life jacket on, jumping off the rock at the front of the water hole.  But mostly learning all the ways to survive in deep creek water.

Special Thanks to Kirsty for teaching us all how survive should we end up in deep water.

Week Seven

Welcome to Matakohe Room Two's Blog, this is something new for us and we are hoping to post lots of news and stories along with what's happening in our classroom.
This week has been a busy one, we have been to the Water hole on Hamlin's farm to learn how to keep safe in deep cold water.  How to get out of your jeans and sweatshirt because it might be dragging you down.  We learnt how to put on a lifejacket, in deep water.  Sounds easy doesn't it, well it wasn't.   For most of the children this proved to be very difficult.
Taking off our jeans was also tricky.  There are now 4-5 pairs of jeans residing at the bottom of the water hole.
Swimming sports today and hopefully lots of photos to post shortly.
We have some budding writers in the class and I will post some of their better sentences in due course.

Bye For Now
